Down from the Mountain—Bryce Andrews

Reading this committed, maybe even obsessed, conservationist/animal lover will be “something captivating even intoxicating” as Andrews describes his heightened alertness in proximity to the grizzlies of his study.  Although the subtitle tells it all, The Life and Death of a Grizzly Bear, his almost poetic storytelling style will have you alternately enthralled, surprised, saddened, and enraged.   What a wonderful monument to a grizzly and her cubs by a creative modern-day conservationist who lives at the interface of wild and “civilized” and is trying to make a difference.
